In world-class fiction, intense craving operates as a distorting filter over a character's rational mechanics. Whether a protagonist hungers for an intimate partner, a stolen crown, or a forbidden magical archive, the emotion manifests as a severe narrowing of their attention block. The object of their obsession becomes the single axis around which their internal choices spin, making them highly vulnerable to compromised principles and dangerous, low-resource gambles.

To write compelling desire, focus the prose on the physical and psychological torment of the gap between the character and their goal. Show the friction of restraint: the character must continuously perform a mask of detached professionalism or casual indifference while their body language exposes their true focus.
