A parallel plot runs two or more storylines in tandem — alternating chapters or braided scenes — until they converge, rhyme, or deliberately contrast. Each line needs its own arc pressure, not just alternating scenery.

Convergence should change strategy or stakes; otherwise readers wonder why the B-line exists.

Why it matters

Explains how B-stories and dual timelines earn their page time without dropping pacing on either thread.

Common pitfalls

B-plots that pause whenever the A-plot gets exciting.
